Symmetric Scenarios Net Zero Commitment
Symmetric Scenarios supports the imperative to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2035 and will continue to take action to facilitate this. Please note the CAVEAT at the end of this statement.
Relevant sources of emissions deriving from the company’s operations are:
- Electricity (mostly to power laptop computer and peripherals; achieving Net Zero in this area therefore depends on the UK National Grid being Net Zero and we welcome the incoming government’s prioritisation of this)
- Heating (most work currently takes place through remote working from home)
- Travel – current practice is:
– To use public transport unless meetings can only be reached by employee’s car, (currently down to fewer than 5 business trips per annum using a hybrid car)
– To use train rather than plane for travel within GB unless in exceptional circumstances (most years this decade there have been zero internal flights, down from a peak of having internal business flights most months in the 2010s)
– Rarely to travel abroad (occasional conference aside, once in the past five years)
The commitment was reaffirmed on 17 July 2024 by the board.
CAVEAT
Symmetric Scenarios is the latest iteration of Symmetric, which, with various changes in and continuity of membership, has been building computer models in the health and social care sector since 2005.
The current iteration is likely to be the last. The group currently consists of one owner and two associates. It is very unlikely that Symmetric Scenarios will be trading in 2035, which is well past the expected retirement date for the current owner. But as long as we continue to trade, we will continue to move in the direction of Net Zero.
